Since 2025, the industry standards in the field of mechanical seals have entered a period of intensive revision. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has approved multiple industry standards directly related to mechanical seals, including the Technical Specification for Mechanical Seals for Boiler Feed Pumps, the Technical Specification for Boron Carbide Sealing Rings for Mechanical Seals, and the Technical Specification for Dry Gas Seals. In 2026, two new standards were added, namely "Rotary Joints" and "Hard Alloy Sealing Rings for Mechanical Seals". These standards cover multiple levels from basic technical specifications, product performance testing to safety requirements, providing a clearer basis for the design, manufacturing, and acceptance of customized sealing products.
2. The added value characteristics of customized seals have been clearly quantified in industry reports
Industry research reports show that the gross profit margin of customized high-temperature and high-pressure seals can reach over 45%, while the gross profit margin of standard parts is only about 18%. The root of this gap lies in the fact that customized seals require specialized material selection and structural design for different media, temperatures, pressures, speeds, and other working conditions, making mass production impossible. Although the value of sealed products accounts for a low proportion of the total project investment, they are crucial for the safe operation of the equipment and have high customer stickiness.

The member conference of the Mechanical Seal Professional Branch held in December 2025 systematically planned the development direction of the industry during the 15th Five Year Plan period, and clearly proposed the development mainline of "high-end leadership, intelligent empowerment, green transformation, and international layout". The meeting also emphasized the need to "fully leverage the leading role of standards" and regard standardization as a fundamental work to promote high-quality development of the industry. Sealed products are evolving from a single mechanical component to a comprehensive solution that combines sealing, condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance.
