Various abrasives have different characteristics, commonly used grinding abrasives for mechanical seal grinding are as follows:
①Alumina series: such as a white crystalline pure alumina (AI203) commonly known as a corundum, chrome corundum (Cr203), the former one is commonly used. In the initial grinding, a corundum and boron carbide are generally used, with a particle size of W14-W40, while W14-W7 for semi-refined grinding, and W5-W1 for refined grinding.
②Carbide series: mainly pure silicon carbide (Sic) which is green is commonly used, (black when there are trace elements), and boron carbonization (BC) which is black and possessing a hardness larger than silicon carbide and lower than diamond.
③Diamond series, with the highest hardness.
Grinding fluid: the grinding fluid needs to be used as a carrier where the abrasive material is suspended in it, which needs to be prepared in a certain proportion. This proportionally prepared abrasive solution is called an abrasive or a polish. It has certain functions of lubrication, reducing friction, flushing, reducing heat and so on. Generally used grinding fluids are: clean water, light kerosene, vegetable oil and alcohol, but also some certain additives need to be added, the main purpose of this step is to prevent scratches occuring on the grinding surfaces of the mechanical seals.

Manual grinding tools are only introduced here:the first level plate or 0 level plate whose material is generally cast iron is mostly used in manual grinding and polishing process of the mechanical seals,and their dimensions generally used are: 200mm✖200mm with allowed deviation at ± 6um,300mm✖ 300mm with allowed deviation at ± 7um,300mm✖ 400mm with allowed deviation at ± 7um,400mm✖ 400mm with allowed deviation at ± 7um ,450mm✖ 600mm with allowed deviation at ± 8um.
